Do Not Buy A Marc Vincent Audio Sound System
Yesterday I got a Marc Vincent Wireless Surround System from a friend that MRRP (Manufacturers Recommend Retail Price) at $5599, and I just have to say “Do not get scammed into buying one”
Once I got it, the specifications looked pretty cool on the box, much better than my Logitech Z550 (which is a cheap, high quality surround sound system). I got out the instruction manual and had a read through it. The first thought that came into my head was “I really hope their sound is much better then the quality of the user manual”. Let me go in dot points everything that is wrong with the instruction manual, before I start complaining about the speakers itself.
- In the Fittings in the Getting Started section, every picture is different to what was in the box.
- The receiver unit, completely different
- The remote, completely different
- The FM antenna – well, it doesn’t fit into the system
- The batteries – it shows 2, but the remote only takes 1
- Warranty card – well haven’t even seen it (I wonder why?)
- The instruction manual – difference brand name – ProTechnix
- Images are stretched vertically to over half the size and are blurry
- The manuals say it’s for Australia, but has overseas plugs shown on the diagram
- There is no instructions on how to use the device, what each button does or how to plug speakers into it
- The printing of the pages are poor. On one page, the table gets cut of from the edge on an angle
So now lets move on to the speakers themselves.
- The build quality is absolute crap – buttons are hard to push, you can still see the glue on the outside
- It looks like students have built the system as a school project – it doesn’t have an impressive overall finish (not saying that students produce bad work)
- The box says “Wireless surrounds” so you assume it a wireless surround sound system kit – it is not. Only the front left speaker is wireless. It’s pretty pointless if it’s right next to the amp/subwoofer
- You need to buy your own speaker cabling – it doesn’t come with any in the box
- The amp/subwoofer is crap. For $5599, you’d expect HDMI, Optical and Coaxial inputs, but there are none
- The Menu button on the amp simple goes through a menu where you can individually adjust the sound for each speaker
- The subwoofer either makes a sound or doesn’t. It is really loud or really quite and doesn’t sound good with music or talkback as it over powers the speakers
- If you want to use the speakers on another amp, you will be missing the front left as their is no audio input for it making the whole system useless
It’s Definitely A Scam
Doing my research on the internet, and talking about where my friend got it from, he was definitely scammed. I asked where this friend got it, and he said off the back of a truck from people in a white van. What reasonable person sells good quality discounted surround sound speakers out of a white van without it being a scam?
Below are some sites that support my case and more information about the back of the truck, white van scam.

Word of Warning
If someone is trying to sell you speakers on the side of the road, don’t buy them. If you are looking for speakers, go out and find them, don’t wait for someone to approach you. If someone tries to sell you something and it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
So don’t get scammed like my friend did, and if you see anything with Marc Vincent or Protechnix on them, do yourself a favour, and don’t buy them.
Update: South Australian Police contacted me after reading about this post. You can read more about the ordeal at https://www.jackcola.org/blog/88-out-of-the-blue-email-it-was-from-the-police-law-enforcement
Update 2: If you have been scammed by these white van speaker scammers, please contact your local police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or visit http://www.crimestoppers.com.au/ and report your incident.
Update 3: A Current Affair posted this video talking about the Marc Vincent Scam, which refers to Marc Vincent from Australia’s Got Talent. http://aca.ninemsn.com.au/celebrity/8291586/australias-got-talent-stereo-scam
these guys approached me and my mum walking back from the clifton village shopping center in clifton beach in queensland, 1 was a kiwi guy the other a skinny little dark skinned guy. they tried to sell the speaker system to us. they asked for $8000 at the beginning and they were down to $1000 in less than 3 minutes, they had a story that “the warehouse only signed 5 over to us and gave us 6 units, we just want to make a quick buck” they had a proper courier sheet(i read the logo) it was a TNT branded sheet and they were wearing official looking retravision polo shirts . i was a bit suspicious that retravision delivery people had TNT branded delivery slips and an unmarked van (retravision up here use trucks). so being tech smart i tested them, i asked them if the system was compatible with a 56k data and fax system and they said yes so we walked away. it was an unmarked white van.
OMG 😮 😮 im so lucky i was going to buy one on trademe just nw nd then i looked up and this comes up ;-)) lucky coz i was going to buy on behalf of my mum THankz who ever 🙂 😀
My brother inlaw got scammed by the white van man near chinchilla lastyear thought he had bargain Marc Vincent mv-3000e IS CRA
white van scams.go back to the 70’s!how did u guys fall for that old hoxe.
My motto is “Unless I initiate the purchase, I don’t buy it”
I used to work for these guys in NSW,so if anyone needs any info, just let me know……
got done at the gold coast by 2 kiwi’s
I was done good. He asked for directions to the Entertainment Center in Adelaide at the Traffic lights on a Sunday.
He said casualy i have to drop some Hi Fi equipment off for a gig there. I said fair enough. Next set of lights he goes, I have a spare one in the back thats not on his delivery list. He could off load it for cheap if i wished.
Pulled over done the spill, ended up getting 4 x big wireless speakers, 2 x tower speakers, front box speakers and the Ipod docking sub woofer thingy.
Had my Mrs there urging me on as well, seemed like a good deal till i got home and googled it. Ahhh Crap, our own faults in fairness.
What does one do??
You could go to the police station and put a complaint in.
But I am not sure what other people have done – please, let us all know what you have done with your speakers.
So people post them on eBay. But for me, I still have mine in the box still.
I still have them all in the box. I have not even pulled the wireless ones out to see if they work.
$1,300 is what i spent on 5 boxes, have not really had it in me to re sell them.
Thought about it but I guess its still worth about $200 if one needed loads of speakers around a big games room.
At best, they are just a piece of decoration, even then, they don’t look that pretty.
i payd 1400 for surround sound and projector today. two chinese blokes in White van toyota hiace rego AO40MR.

Hi Stefan,
Please see my email. If you want the contact details of the police that contacted me a while ago who was working on the case, just reply to the email I sent you.
They must have been out and about again on Friday 19th Nov, as you and another person who sent me an email providing the exact same registration number.
🙁 yep
My brother just got scam today
white van in ultimo hie pay 1500 cash
they said it was wroth 7500 in the store
By the looks of it, it seems they are out and about again considering within 6 hours, two people have got scammed.
I was even contacted by the South Australian Police about it, and you can read the post at http://www.jackcola.org/blog/88-out-of-the-blue-email-it-was-from-the-police-law-enforcement
But $1500 is quite a lot of money. Do you have the model of the speakers they sold you?
More information people provide, the easier it is to stop and catch these people.
Please see the email I just sent you.
And i liked Vincent audiosystem. Its very clear And very very loud In really good condition 5 speakers Plus 1 active subwooffer Its all black and silver
Really? I think they are totally crap. But of you think they’re good, then that’s great.
Thanks for this information, I have found this very useful and will be sure to be very cautious with this from now on.
great stuff. will be watching out for this one.
Yeh, I noticed an ebay listing for one on 2012/07/28. Someone is about to be scammed again, abd ebay are lapping it up!!
What really sucks is that EBAY appear to have NO WAY to report the listing as a scam product!!! Promoting it as a MSRP $5999 going to some lucky bidder at no reserve. Do you beleave it?!!! the corporate American scum suckers appear to consider it fair game to perpetuate the scams… I guess so long as they get their slice of the $$ too. a-holes.

You have to realise that these people too where scammed and lost money and want to try to recoup some of that loss. But in all honesty, they should state these speakers are fake.
Are people trolling or are people that stupid in this thread??
Im sorry but everyone today have a smartphone, how f-fing hard is it to google??
I think it is legit.
Hey guys i bought one for $500 for the whole set of home theatre i guess i didnt get it for too bad. The set doesnt come with any wiring and the whole setup is pretty old skool with the witing does anyone know which store can i just pop in and ask for the wiring ?? Brcause everytime i have been somewhere half of them dont know MArC VinCent.
As suggested by my posts, I wouldn’t recommend using it.
Any audio/speaker wire should do though.
I am hoping you did read this post though, but by the sounds of it, you didn’t.
