So… I got an email from the Police about one of my articles
I don’t receive many interesting emails over the weeks from my websites, but I received one on Saturday which caught my attention. Not in one million years would I have thought I would receive an email from the the Police, to be exact the South Australia Police about a post on my blog.
In early June, I wrote a post about the Marc Vincent Audio System, White Van Scam, and this was the post in question that the Police wanted to know more information about. All they wanted me to do was to call them, so I did. I want to help catch these scammers to save the money of many others.
The Police are currently cracking down on these people, and some have already been arrested for it. All they wanted to know was a little more information on how the scammers conducted themselves. Since I never came into contact with them, I don’t really know, but another friend of mine says that he has been pulled over a couple of times by people in White Vans trying to sell him dodgy goods. They literally drive you off the road until you pull over. He concluded that these scammers mostly go after old people and tradesman.
But enough about the whole scam issue, I want to ask a question to all website owners, who have you been contacted by before that was out of the blue? Have the Police contacted you regarding a post you have written on your website or blog? Or maybe it was something else, like a famous person linking to your site? What ever it is, please do share it with me and the rest of the readers here. I was just not expecting to receive an email from a Police Officer. And if you haven’t noticed, I also changed hosts to an Australian host, so that’s probably one extra reason why I got their email as they said that they can only look at Australian websites.
fuk thos wanker got some like a month ago and when i go to connect it all up it doesnt work
That’s too bad.
i bought one of these mv8000s systems too from one of these white van scammers. he pulled into a servo where i was in oxley brisbane qld and gave me this story of how good these systems are and the high craftsmanship work and stupid me took his word for it as he showed me reciepts (obviously bodgy ones) i’ve hooked it up and what do you know, the piece of shit doesn’t work! instructions are shit, wrong cable supplied to go from amp to tv, even with correct cable connected nothing happens, pretty blue lights and looks good but thats about it. $600 for the complete system thats prolly worth $5 at st vinnies
I know how you feel Rob. I am in the exact same situations. My Marc Vincent speakers are back in its box packed away, and probably never to see the light of day again.
😀 Three Cheers for Jack Cola.
I just filed a report to eBay about Marc Vincent products. Been looking for wireless home theatre for some time and done hours of research. Saw this one and it rang a bell or two, whirlpool.net forums and scamshield reports. So I lodged a report with eBay. Just hope they action it in time to save the poor bastard biddig on one of them from wasting his $300.
Once again well done
Thanks Ray. But the thing to keep in mind is that these people who are selling this on eBay may not be the scammer. They may have been scammed and trying to recoup some of their money by selling it to someone else.
I doubt the scammers will sell these on eBay, because there identity can be find more easily.
Well My neighbor fell for the same scam, RRP $4999 and he got it for 500!! Apparently they target rich people/ people driving nice utes or 4×4’s!! It was a textbook scam, theres a good section on it in Wikipedia. “White van speaker scam”
Scam location: Beaudesert Queensland 4285
Brand name: CineMax
RRP:$4999
Sale price:$500
Doesn’t even work
I think they scam who ever they find easy or think is gullible, not necessarily rich people – no offense to your neighbour though!
But thanks for your information and comment.
I don’t understand Apple sell you a piece of sh!! and charge you $1000 dollars but its made in china probably by children and only cost $2 to make but apple are OK and these speakers are shit your all gullible idiots that deserve what you get
I totally agree with your Apple statement, I it’s kind of true. Apply employees (from reports I have heard) say that they have to sign a “I won’t commit suicide because I will work in sweatshop environment disclaimer”
I am very against Apples ethics and morals, who have seemed to brainwashed everyone.
Jack, if the Police was indeed investigating this scam for a while, it’s expected for them to run into your blog if you are decently ranked in google with the relevant keywords. I am not aware how exactly an investigation works there, but basically the police are aware the Internet represents a good information pool and they do use it to search for relevant info. I would also expect them to contact people that they find relevant for the investigation to provide them additional details that may help them.
The most obvious example is me. I ran into a video on youtube about this scam and I was purely curious about it. I googled it and ‘puff’, there I am, commenting on your 4 years old article. 🙂
Cheers!
Hello Florin, and it was just after switching from a US host to an Australian web host. They said, we can only action from information if it is hosted in Australia.
Hopefully you found this post useful.
i googled my name and found this! lol …but it wasent me!!
Sorry about that Marc. Pitty your name was associated with dodgy speakers, not something like Samsung 🙂
