Fission 10.1” Netbook for $299
Update: You can read my full review of this Netbook here. I don’t recommend it, as it sounds like an insect.
On sale from Thursday February 10th 2011, Aldi has a pretty cheap netbook on sale for $299. The Fission 10.1 inch netbook contains:
- Atom N450 1.66GHz Processor
- Mobile Intel NM10 Chipset
- 1GB DDR2 SODIMM Memory
- 1024 x 579 resolution screen
- Intel GMA 3150 Graphics Card
- 250GB Hard Drive
- 3 in 1 Card Reader (SD/XD/MS)
- Integrated Web Cam
- 11/100Mbps LAN
- 802.11b/g/n Wireless
- Bluetooth 2.0
The netbook contains 2 x USB ports and 1 x RJ45 LAN port. It has built-in speakers with microphone and it’s all powered through a 6 Cell Lithium-Ion battery. It ways 1.35kg and is 254x185x31mm in size.
Aldi doesn’t state if it comes with other software like the previous computers and notebooks, but it contains Windows 7 Starter Edition.
I am a huge fan of the Medion laptops and desktops from Aldi. I currently have Medion Akoya MD8390 Desktop PC (which I use as my main PC now, and 17 inch Medion laptop (MD9700), which is around 5 years old and slowly dying, and a10 inch Akoya Netbook E1210, which just after 2 years of using it for University, the battery has died. I am positive that the Aldi Fission 10.1 inch laptop that’s on sale soon will be a great buy for students or people who can’t afford expensive laptops. However, the cheapest Netbook I have seen sold is from Officeworks early this year for $199.
What are your thoughts on this netbook? Are you thinking of buying one?
Hi Jack, Ran across this little netbook from Aldi and have been trying to find out some info on who Fission is. Your site is the only one that I’ve been able to find with anything relating to this product. Would appreciate any information you can forward on. Many thanks, Bernie.
I know the details are pretty sketchy, but that’s is pretty much all that has been published as their is no “Fission” website with more details provided like Medion – other laptops sold through Aldi.
I think for basic word processing, email, and internet, this is a steal, but for anything more, it may be a little slow.
I think your best option is to go in store on the 10th , and you should be able to get a good look at it (and the specs on the box).
Remember, if you don’t like it, Aldi usually as a 60 day return policy, and I’m pretty sure, this is no exception – but I cannot 100% confirm it – just ask before you buy as I don’t want to give you the wrong advice. They usually just re-sell it at a lower price – thus why you see some tech products discounted.
I hope this helps you a bit.
🙂 As I’m looking for some new laptop series, it is really a useful information for me to make the final decision.
I am glade you found this post useful.
