Latest Snapchat Update: How Your Snaps May Be Accessed By Anyone

The latest update to Snapchat, may be a scary one for some. Now, Snapchat Stories that you post are now searchable for the entire world to see.

However, you can easily fix this by reviewing your Snapchat privacy settings. And if Facebook teaches us anything, many people don’t regularly review privacy settings.

What’s this new Snapchat Story Feature?

You can now search for snaps based on words or location. For example, searching the word Family will bring up any snaps that mention the word family, or any other family related theme.

Imagine you taking a snap, posting it as s story and have your private family photo’s being accessible to the world? Not only this, but Snaps are geotagged which means your location is also viewable. I know for sure, I don’t want my family photo’s public. Do you?

You should be careful where you take the photo as users can also search for Snaps within a certain location, event or landmark.

So how do I make my snaps private and not searchable?

  1. Open Snapchat
  2. Scroll Up & hit the Settings button (the gear icon on the top right of the screen)
  3. Scroll down until you see “Who Can…”
  4. Select “View My Story” and select “My Friends”
