Save Time Writing a Website URL With These 2 Tips

Over the past few weeks, many blogs have been writing articles about the web inventor apologising for included the // when entering a web address. Although they are pointless now, they do provide information.

So if your a person who copies a URL that starts with http://www and ends with .com, .net or .org here are some tips to save you many seconds typing out a website address.

Tip 1:

Most websites start with ‘http://www.’ and as this is already 11 characters already, you can save some valuable time by simple omitting them. Most browsers automatically add this to a URL if you don’t type them in. Simply going to google.com will work. However, some sites (very few) actually do require the www. for them to work properly, but ALL websites will work if you omit the http:// (unless its a secure site, therefore you need to change it to https://)

Tip 2:

Every domain has a domain name prefix and the majority of them have either .com, .net or .org. Although these are only 4 characters long, you can save more time by using a key combination when pressing the enter key to automatically add them.

To add .com to the end of the URL, simple hold Control when you press Enter

To add .net to the end of the URL, simple hold Shift when you press Enter

To add .org to the end of the URL, simple hold Shift and Control when you press Enter.

So overall, you just really need to type the name of the domain, use a key combination and the web browser will do the rest.

Example:

To go to http://www.google.com, just type google and hold the control key when you press enter.

To go to http://www.bing.com, just type bing and hold the control key when you press enter.

To go to https://www.jackcola.org, just type in jackcola and hold the control and shift keys while pressing enter.
