My Thoughts and Experiences of Thailand: The Outdoors

Posted by on June 15, 2012

I am used to fresh and clean air, but in Bangkok, the air was little different. Let’s say, it was unbearable.

I Could Not Breathe Outside

I can’t imagine why anyone would want live in Bangkok. I literally could not breathe outside. It stunk so bad of pollution, and the hot weather didn’t make it any better. I thought where we moved too in Australia was bad (after previously living 500 meters away from the ocean). I can’t describe the smell, but I could see years coming off my life the longer I stayed in Bangkok. Luckily most places had aircon, so I spent most of the time in the shops or the hotel.

It was like you were breathing hot, moist, polluted air. It was like breathing in a Sauna, only it was polluted).

In the morning, I would go outside to check the lovely day, but as soon as I opened the window, I had to close it again due to the smell.

Photo’s Don’t Show You The Reality

The photo’s you see in Thailand look like it’s a nice place. But turn 180 degrees or walk 100 meters down the road, or even outside, it’s a dump.

This is where I took the photo. But if you look around that area, there and even around the corner at the Siam Centre, it looks like the above photo is in a completely different city. It’s like, once they build something, they don’t touch it ever again.

This photo is taken at a different angle as the above.

However, the Siam Centre was very modern – like a shopping Centre in Australia, but with different set of shops.

Looking into Centre Square from the Siam Discovery Building where we ordered a pizza

This was more my style of buildings. To the bottom left was a stage where they had a fashion show on, the top left is the entry into the shopping centre, and the right was the train station.

However, I do have to say, it was easy some of these new buildings are better than Australia.

    My good friend,

Bangkok is fun, in a way, especially if you have locals who can bring you around 🙂

You said Bangkok is bad with pollution, you should get used to it fast, and come visit other Asian countries like Malaysia Phillipines and Indonesia, then u’d only have to improve a little bit, and get into the travelling.

and don’t worry, the shambled areas also exist a lot here, or the good areas, and easy to find if you want to 🙂

come over some time! i’ll show you places !

Bangkok is good, but just not the outside smell.

I thought were we lived was bad especially the path I used to ride to Uni, compared to where I used to live, and Bangkok is so much worse.

I didn’t think Indonesia and Malaysia had a bad smell like Bangkok.

And apparently, Smart Traveller has updated Thailand as “Exercise high level of caution” from “it’s safe to visit” http://www.smartraveller.gov.au/zw-cgi/view/Advice/Thailand
