Update: You can read my full review of this Netbook here. I don’t recommend it, as it sounds like an insect.
On sale from Thursday February 10th 2011, Aldi has a pretty cheap netbook on sale for $299. The Fission 10.1 inch netbook contains:
- Atom N450 1.66GHz Processor
- Mobile Intel NM10 Chipset
- 1GB DDR2 SODIMM Memory
- 1024 x 579 resolution screen
- Intel GMA 3150 Graphics Card
- 250GB Hard Drive
- 3 in 1 Card Reader (SD/XD/MS)
- Integrated Web Cam
- 11/100Mbps LAN
- 802.11b/g/n Wireless
- Bluetooth 2.0
The netbook contains 2 x USB ports and 1 x RJ45 LAN port. It has built-in speakers with microphone and it’s all powered through a 6 Cell Lithium-Ion battery. It ways 1.35kg and is 254x185x31mm in size.
Aldi doesn’t state if it comes with other software like the previous computers and notebooks, but it contains Windows 7 Starter Edition.
I am a huge fan of the Medion laptops and desktops from Aldi. I currently have Medion Akoya MD8390 Desktop PC (which I use as my main PC now, and 17 inch Medion laptop (MD9700), which is around 5 years old and slowly dying, and a10 inch Akoya Netbook E1210, which just after 2 years of using it for University, the battery has died. I am positive that the Aldi Fission 10.1 inch laptop that’s on sale soon will be a great buy for students or people who can’t afford expensive laptops. However, the cheapest Netbook I have seen sold is from Officeworks early this year for $199.
What are your thoughts on this netbook? Are you thinking of buying one?
