As I mentioned in my last post, we were on our way to Berchtesgaden from Italy, although, we couldn’t make the distance in one day driving. We got to Lienz first to try and find some accommodation. It was around 5pm, and we didn’t want to leave it too late into the night otherwise our chances of finding something available will be slim.
We went and found the tourist information centre to see if there was any accommodation available which we were directed to a guesthouse. Before we headed off their, we had a dinner in a restaurant near bye – it was nice food. Unfortunately, I don’t have the name of the place.
After our meal, we went on to find our bed for the night. We found the guest house we were looking for, but it looked really dodgy. There was just one guy there who was a really strange fella. It was just around the corner from this nice hotel.
It would have been nice to stay in the hotel pictured above, but I don’t think it was in our budget.
The guy gave us the key to the room, we checked it out, but we didn’t have a good feeling of staying there. So we moved on because not having WiFi was a deal breaker.
We continued driving to find somewhere to sleep. Along our drive, we saw accommodation signs leading to this small town, however, there wasn’t much there so we continued driving.

We then drove past a huge hotel that was up the hill on our right, however, it was full. But thankfully, they called another place they recommended to see if they have any vacancies. Luckily, they found a place for us to stay.

This would have been one of my favourite hotels we stayed at in Austria – though we didn’t stay in many, it was nice. When we got there, it was around 8pm. There wasn’t much to do at this time, but the bar was still open. There were two female bar staff, and the hotel owner serving us, so we had a nice chat. Apparently, you can smoke cigarettes, drink beer, and even serve alcohol when you are 16 years old in Austria – because that is how old one of the girls were. All up, 5 beers cost us around 10 euro’s
I would really recommend staying here as the staff were friendly, we had a good chat, and our one night sleep there was excellent. However, I’m not sure what it will be like during their peak period in winter as in summer, it is a bit quieter.

However, I don’t know what they were doing underneath our balcony. This is the ground looking down.
Breakfast
Because we like our sleep in, we were late’ish to breakfast, well after 9am. We were the only ones there, and they had a table all setup ready for us to eat with tea, coffee, and orange juice all ready to go – they were waiting for us, which was a nice feeling.
Although, I would have loved to stay another night, our time was limited as we wanted to see Hitler’s House and Dachau’s Concentration Camp before heading to Paris to pickup our third traveller.
