Skype Installing CrapWare Automatically On Your PC? Easy Bits Go?

Out of no where, I got a popup message in Skype about installing some software to play games. I click on the X to close it. Another popup appears and I close that too. Then, I actually check my computer, and it seems that Skype, without my consent, or even with the annoying popup every time you want to make a change to your PC, Skype just goes ahead and installs Easy Bits Go.

Now literally WTF Skype? Why are you installing crap on my computer. I never asked you to install it, so what the hell is going on!

This is not acceptable. A reputable program, goes ahead, and automatically installs programs on your computer. That is defiantly not on. If you weren’t so good, I would piss you off, but that’s just not possible.

Has this happened to anyone else? It happened to me around 12:20am Sunday 29th March AEST.

Update: Seems to just happened to a lot of people as well:

Update 2: Skype has released a press release regarding this issue. The release also states that “This latest update from EasyBits included elements of their desktop games organizer in error, but it neither installs nor un-installs correctly.”

Therefore, I first recommend to perform a System Restore, and follow these uninstallation tips to uninstall EasyBits Go:

  1. In Skype, go to Tools –> Options –>Advance –> Advance Settings –> Manage other programs access to Skype and remove EasyBits Go
  2. Uninstall EasyBits Go from Add/Remove Programs
  3. Your user profile Application Data and delete the EasyBits Go Folder (Application Data folder may be a hidden file, so you have to turn on “Show Hidden Files” For example, delete C:UsersJackAppDataRoaminggo
  4. Go to the Registry, and delete HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftware and delete the EasyBits folder
  5. Go to C:/Windows/Prefect and delete the EasyBitsGo.exe file

Only perform these instructions if you know what you are doing, otherwise you may make things worse.
