Catching Public Transport From Cannes to Nice (France)

Posted by on June 17, 2013

After just staying outside of Cannes at a camp site, we needed to make our way to Nice to meet up with our friends. We could have drove, but that means we had to pack up our campervan, and also try and find a parking spot in Nice somewhere. So our plan was to catch a bus to Cannes and a Train to Nice.

Since we got the bus part down pat, we needed to make our way to Nice on the train. However, we missed the bus by 10 minutes, and the next one was in 30 minutes, but that never ended up coming. So one hour later, we finally got on the bus to get to the train station at Cannes.

At the train station, not having a clue what to do, we purchased our tickets. Saw the sign to Nice, and waited a the platform. The train came, and everyone was running in all directions, not knowing where to hope on. We went to the closest door, and jumped on, to be greeted by train marshal.

We showed him our tickets and he knocked us back, saying “have you booked your seats?”. We have tickets, isn’t that good enough? Apparently, we purchased second tickets, and we were on a first class train.

The train was about to leave, and we didn’t know if we should catch the train, or wait for the next one (if it would ever come). He said you can book your seats for 4 Euro. We wanted to get to Nice, so we pad the 4 euro each and hopped aboard.

We also got in trouble because we didn’t validate our tickets entering the platform, but because he knew we had no idea, he validated it for us.

So we sat down in first class, and it was one of the most comfortable trains I have ever been on. It was fast, and was express.

I tried to take some photo’s but they didn’t turn out so well.

In the end, we arrived to Nice, and walked to Radisson Blu, were our friends where staying. We didn’t know where it was, so we didn’t jump on a bus, so we walked. Turned out, it was 42 minute walk away. But we arrived 5 minutes before we were meant to meet them. So perfect timing. We ended up leaving our camp site at 10:20, arrived in Nice at 12:30, and got to the hotel at 2:00pm
