After leaving Croatia, we were on our way to Germany to visit Eagles Nest in Berchtesgaden and the Concentration Camp in Dachau.
I only found out about these places after I sent Mark, the editor of MakeUseOf.com – a tech blog I used to write for, and email. He suggested that I visit these two places in Germany… so I did.
Leaving Hotel Hohe Tauern (south) and arriving in Berchtesgaden (north)
We didn’t know where it was, so we found the local tourist information centre to ask for directions. We got there around 2pm in the afternoon. Because Eagles Nest is on a top of the hill and because of the narrow road, you can only take a bus to the top. It was around 16 euro’s per person return. I didn’t think it was so busy, but all three buses where full.

Once you make it to the top after catching one of the buses that leave every 25 minutes you can view this magnificent place yourself.
After getting of the bus you first have to book your return trip, only then can you either walk to the top outside, or walk through this tunnel and take the lift up 150 metres. When we went, it was a 30+ degree day, and inside this tunnel, the walls we cold and it felt like you needed to wear a jumper. There was so much condensation on the bricks.
While we were up there one and a half hours, there was someone hang-gliding for a decent period of time.
Over the mountain and to right is Salzburg and Austria.
Looking a bit further to the right from the above picture.
Believe it or not, on this 30+ degree day, this is snow on the top of the mountain.
This is standing directly behind Eagles Nest facing South East looking towards Austria.
The top of the mountain is very rocky, and there are a few walking tracks you can walk along – so make sure you are wearing good walking shoes and have your hanging on hands.
I believe this is a sign for one of the walking tracks – I didn’t walk it as we didn’t have 45 minutes as the last bus leaves at 4:50pm in the afternoon. I wouldn’t like to get stuck up here all night.

There is so much rock.
A sign showing how high some of the other mountains are.
Looking out to the west on the west side of the building.
The famous fireplace where Hilter himself once stood.
Inside Eagles Nest. This is where Hitler himself once was which is now turned into a restaurant.
Not a great photo of inside, but this is inside.
On the north side of the building looking out West.
The front of the building. Behind the window is now a restaurant, but was the meeting room where the fireplace was.
Panoramic views.
The frozen ice on the footpath outside.
