How We Paid For Things While Overseas

Posted by on August 13, 2012

One of the biggest problems while overseas is ensuring you have enough money to your disposal, and being able to access that money when you need it. We had 5 types of ways to access money for our Holiday.

Cash Packs

Having cash in the foreign currency is a must, just in case of the odd occasion the ATM’s don’t work. So we purchased a couple of Cash Packs from ANZ Bank before we left. It’s not the cheapest currency conversion method, but having the cash in the country you are visiting before you leave gives you a bit more security and piece of mind while travelling.

Australian Dollars

Converting foreign currency in Australia tends to not give you the best rates compared to converting AUD in a foreign currency. So we took a a few $50 and $100 AUD notes with us to exchange overseas for when we run out. It’s also good taking AUD in case you visit a country not in the Euro zone such as Croatia in which you can easily exchange money when required.

The only downside with this, you have to ensure you don’t lose your money carrying it around. For some people carrying around large sums of cash isn’t for them.

Credit Cards

We also took a number for credit cards. We had an Ozforex prepaid Travel Card with $2000 AUD pre loaded, a 28 Degree MasterCard by GE Money, and an ANZ Visa Platinum card which I will review all these cards later on. I think it’s always good to take a VISA and MasterCard credit card in case some retails don’t accept one. But usually, if they accept one, they’ll accept both.

Stay tuned for the coming posts of my receive of the Ozforex prepaid Travel Card 28 Degree MasterCard, and ANZ Visa Platinum.
