Review: ASUS RT-AX88U Dual Band AX6000 Router

Since finally getting NBN, I thought I’d make the most of my home network by installing new CAT6 Ethernet cables to a few rooms, and purchase a brand new router to replace by iiNet Budii modem/router.

I haven’t looked at the Router/Modem scene for a few years, so I was a bit out of date. In summary, I decided to settle on the ASUS RT-AX88U Dual Band AX6000 Smart Wi-Fi Router, which features the new 802.11ax standard.

I had few other routers in mind, but I ultimately settled on the ASUS.

  1. Netgear Nighthawk line
  2. Ubiquity Edge Router X with UniFi AP HD

I decided to settle on the ASUS router as I was unhappy with the interface of the Netgear modems, and that Ubiquity didn’t currently have a 802.11ax access point. I thought to myself, I am going to stick with this router for at least another 5 years, so I’d purchase something that future proof for a few more years.

I have heard good things for Ubiquity in terms of performance, but the setup isn’t as plug and play as your typical home router. I also didn’t want another cable to an access point around the house either.
