How to Watch Live TV on Your Phone For Free

It’s finally here – you can now legally watch live TV on your phone thanks to the new Freeview FV App that which is now available on Android and iTunes.

You can now watch and enjoy your favourite free-to-air TV show that’s currently on with a click of a button – anywhere in Australia. I haven’t seen any ads, or pre-roll ads as you do when you use a stations app such as Ten Play or Plus7 – however, that may change in the future.

The Freeview FV App has a sleek design and delivers live streaming from 19 free-to-air channels. The channels currently available are:

  • ABC
  • SBS
  • Seven
  • Channel 9
  • TEN
  • ONE
  • ABC2/Kids
  • ABC Me
  • ABC News 24
  • 7Two
  • 7Mate
  • 7flix
  • Racing.com
  • 9Gem
  • 9Go!
  • 9Life

If you are not sure what’s on, the handy inbuilt TV guide has got you covered. Don’t want to miss your favourite show? Simply mark them as a favourite and get push notifications reminders on when they are on.

The App offers a catchup TV service, however, prompts you to install the relevant station’s app. In terms of streaming, you might want to use Wi-Fi as the default setting is to stream at roughly 1200kbps which is about 540Mb of data per hour. There is a setting to reduce the quality to use 700kbps, but it still all adds up!

For me, I guess it’s goodbye to my TV Dongle for my SmartPhone.

Download the Freeview FV app now on Android and iTunes.
