How To Access Geo-Blocked Websites Without A VPN – UnoTelly Giveaway!

If you are located outside of the United States, you might find yourself blocked from sites such as Hulu.com, Netflix, some YouTube videos, and other television networks websites. There are an ample number of ways to gain access to these sites though, by using proxy servers to mask your IP address, or by using a VPN. However, using VPN’s and proxy servers, there are downsides:

• Your bandwidth may be limited: Not good when watching movies
• Your download speeds will be slower: You have to rely on the speed of the Proxy/VPN
• You usually have to install software: Which may have malicious code

However, there is a service available that works around these disadvantages – and that is UnoTelly.

How Does UnoTelly UnoDNS Works?

UnoTelly is unique because it bypasses geo-restrictions blocks by using DNS (Domain Name System), rather than tunnelling through someone else’s network that is located in a different country. If you are not sure what DNS is, it’s basically a lookup service that points the domain name (I.e. www.jackcola.org) to an IP address (I.e. 103.9.168.19). If you visit the IP address, you will be redirected to the domain name.

The advantages over using DNS to bypass geo-restrictions are:

• No bandwidth limitation: You are only restricted to what your ISP allows
• No speed decrease: Access content with the same speed as your internet connection
• You don’t have to install any software: Just change your primary and secondary DNS Server IP addresses on your router or local PC
• No need to keep “logging in” or “connecting” to a service

For those who are technical, UnoTelly’s UnoDNS works by searching for particular packets sent through the DNS and modifying parts of the packets to trick the receiver into thinking the packet came from another location. If the packet is not being sent to a supported service, it will be forwarded to Google’s DNS Servers. Therefore, UnoDNS is not supported by all websites. But not to worry, if all else fails, there is UnoVPN.

Using UnoVPN

The UnoVPN is easy to setup on Windows. You don’t need to install any software, so it’s quite safe. Just follow the setup instructions for Windows and you are on your way. It’s no different from connecting to your workplace.

However, there is a noticeable speed decrease when using the VPN. The top two speed test results was taken when connected to the VPN, the second two is the speed I received without using the VPN.

UnoTelly has two VPN locations: one in the United States, and the other in the United Kingdom. The help section says you cannot Torrent from the US server, but you can with the UK server, so just keep that in mind.

Thoughts of UnoTelly

Setting up UnoTelly was a bit of a pain for me, as they don’t have a simple “Setup Instructions” page. When you log in, click on QuickStart, you are presented with the below error which will divert you to this page.

But after I found out where to get the IP addresses to use for the DNS (the Global Servers link); I popped in the DNS IP addresses into my network settings and it instantly worked.

Apart from that little hiccup, using the service has so far been flawless.
