Review of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Phone
After my previous encounter with Nokia and how I said i will never by another Nokia phone ever again, I gave in to temptation and purchased a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. I have to say though, I absolutely love this phone.
The phone has everything you need in a phone. It’s got WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS (now with free maps, and voice navigation), email, accelerometer, and the list goes on. In fact, I am writing this on the phones full size qwerty touch keyboard as we speak.
With a 3.2 megapixel camera, the quality of the pictures and video is great. I am also extremely happy with the navigation and GPS on the phone. Since a few weeks ago, Nokia announced free voice navigation on ten of its phones, the XpressMusic being one of them. So this phone is a huge money saver if you need a new phone and GPS unit for your car as well.
I have to say that the sound and picture quality of watching movies is excellent. The inbuilt loudspeaker is pretty good, not only for music, but for hands free as well. The microphone is really good as well. Talking with the phone about 1 meter away using the inbuilt voice recorder, you can still hear your voice crystal clear when you play it back.
For $600 on a 24 month contract with Virgin Mobile, I couldn’t be any happy with this phone. It lives up to the name of Nokia’s iPhone version.
However, with any review, I do have to mention some downsides.
After I purchased this phone, my friend says to me on Facebook that he had this phone, and the slider key to unlock the phone malfunctioned. This meant only way to unlocked the phone was to take out the battery. But I have to agree with him, the only way to unlock the phone is to use the slider key that’s on the right hand side of the phone.
Another thing is that the phone did not come with any protective gear such as a screen projector, or pouch, so I had to purchase them for $25.00. With the pouch I purchased, it makes it incredibly awkward to unlock the phone for use.
One final thing, navigating through menu’s and screen can somewhat be annoying as sometimes you have to double-click to open something, while others are single click. It would be good if this phone just used one or the other, but not both.
